Futuristic Play (UKZN Drama & Performance Studies)

Made in my Image is written & directed by Xola Mziwakhe, and features the students of the UKZN Drama and Performance Studies Department. The story is set in the monarch of Ntokozweni village under the ruling house of Nxasana, which has ruled for over 50 centuries.

It’s the year 5050, and the one destined to take the throne is born. This monarchy will reign for 100 centuries before passing down power to another house. By tradition each house must give birth to one boy child. If not, the dry season will visit the village until it's time to pass down the power to another house. The current king and queen in the year 5050 give birth to a girl child, which has never before happened in history. The king is humiliated and disappointed with his ancestors and the kings who ruled before him, for bringing this predicament upon his house. He makes a decision to sacrifice the child, but the queen vouches to protect her baby girl at all costs so that she will rule even though her alliances betray her. The story is told through a fusion of dramatic action, music and poetry.
