Think Theatre is delighted to announce productions of Hamlet and Othello, performed live on stage at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre between 28 February and 17 March 2023.  "Being reunited with many of our schools in 2022, when the SA theatre world started to return to normality after Covid 19, was a time of great joy.  Theatre audience capacities at the time, however, remained restricted and not every school was able to attend.   We’re really looking forward to seeing all our schools in 2023!"

Once again, multi award winning director, writer, teacher and actress, Clare Mortimer, directs a professional cast in action-packed performances which keep audiences enthralled and help learners to understand and enjoy Shakespeare. With her wealth of experience as a Matric English teacher and marker (both in private and Government schools), Clare has given the greatest of care to the scripts, whilst cleverly keeping the productions to a manageable 2 hours for Hamlet, and 2 hours 10 minutes for Othello.

Each production closely follows all the relevant themes the learners need to know.  With its varied themes of racism, love, jealousy and betrayal, Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, OTHELLO. remains as relevant to present day audiences as it ever was. Often hailed as Shakespeare’s greatest work, HAMLET Prince of Denmark focuses on themes of death, betrayal, greed, murder and revenge. Often described as a typical “Revenge Play”, any careful study reveals it to be very much more.  Does a good and purposeful life on earth triumph? Are vile and criminal acts always punished? Further, what is the purpose of our lives in the time we are given if decency has the same end as treachery? These questions are valid today – in our homes, our schools and among our leaders.

"We know how much our educators appreciate the benefit that learners derive from watching Shakespeare’s plays performed in their rightful place - which is on stage.  Your commitment to bringing learners to the theatre is highly valued". - Think Theatre
